About us
The Dental Hygienists Network for the Development of Science (RHODes) is a network of dental hygienists working in different fields of intervention, who are interested in conducting scientific research while carrying out their clinical, community, academic and business activities.
It also seeks to create bridges between dental hygienists, society, and the corporate world. RHODes is available to carry out joint research and knowledge development activities, creating bridges of knowledge, always at the service of the community. These bridges will allow the creation of synergies to develop common projects and accelerate the development of specific knowledge in the area of dental hygiene, allowing the construction of new technologies, clinical and community procedures, guidelines and characterization of professionals and patients, among other relevant activities for the development of the oral health area. These synergies allow, among other benefits, a professional performance based on updated scientific evidence, the development of new products and of clinical and community programs.
This network was established in 2021 by the Dental Hygiene Degree at the Faculty of Dental Medicine in the University of Lisbon, and it is based at the University of Lisbon.
RHODes has a group of research dental hygienists who liaise with the dental hygienists in our network in order to support the development of applied research of relevance to professional practice. All associated dental hygienists can submit research ideas to be developed within RHODes. These research ideas should address problems relevant to the dental hygienist, whatever their area of practice may be.
Dental hygienists proposing research topics will be involved at all levels of the research process, including protocol development, implementation, analysis, publication, and dissemination of results.
In addition to personal and scientific benefits, the participation of dental hygienists with clinical and community activities provides the individuals and groups with whom they work, with the unique opportunity to participate in research and distinguishes their workplace as a place that fosters the development of scientific knowledge in dental hygiene.
By becoming a member of this network, you will participate in the development of dental hygiene knowledge and collaborate in the development of scientific activities proposed by other dental hygienists or affiliated companies. All participants can be simultaneously principal investigators of research projects, proposed by themselves, or collaborating researchers in other projects presented by colleagues. The core group of RHODes is composed of the dental hygiene professors in the Dental Hygiene Programme at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, University of Lisbon. These elements make up the group of research dental hygienists who liaise with the dental hygienists in our network.
